Names that were ever shared

359 names · top 1,000 in 20+ of the last 100 years · male share crossed 5–95% at least once

Each ribbon is one name. Its centre is the fraction of that year's bearers recorded male; its thickness is how many babies got the name, on a square-root scale, so a ribbon swells as the name catches on and tapers to a thread as it dies. Ribbons stop where the name left the top 1,000. The shaded band is 25–75%. Hover to isolate, click to lock.
